Money

Each year, Derby High School awards scholarships and prizes to the graduating seniors on behalf of many local organizations and sponsors. In addition, students may apply for other local scholarships through the guidance office. For more information or an application for the following scholarships, please stop in the guidance office. Please pay close attention to DEADLINES.


The Vera H. and William R. Todd Scholarship

Deadline : May 1, 2021

Eligibility Requirements:

  • current resident of Derby or Shelton with continuous residence for four years
  • high school graduate or high school senior planning to attend college

NACME Scholarship

Deadline : October 15, 2020

$2,500 - 1000 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic-American or Native American Indian planning to study in the fields of engineering or computer science.

Women's Ministries Scholarship Program

Deadline : October 15, 2020

$20,000 - 49 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a woman who could not attend college without financial help.
  • Be a woman who is committed to serving the mission of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church who would otherwise be unable to afford a college education.

NSHSS STEM Scholarships

Deadline : October 15, 2020

$1,000 - 7 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a senior in high school with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must demonstrate a desire to pursue a major in one of the STEM disciplines.

YoungArts National Art Competition

Deadline : October 16, 2020

Up to $10,000 in awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a citizen of the United States or permanent resident/green card recipient (copy of the documentation is required in the application)
  • Be in grades 10–12 or 15–18 years of age on December 1 of the year you are applying
  • Have not already been named a YoungArts finalist and previously attended National YoungArts Week

Horatio Alger National Scholarship

Deadline : October 25, 2020

$25,000 - 106 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2021 with plans to enter a college in the United States.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States.

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship

Deadline : October 25, 2020

$2500 - 1020 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have completed high school
  • Will be enrolled in an eligible school in the fall
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program (up to 2 years) at an accredited non-profit post secondary institution in the United States

Horatio Alger State Scholarship

Deadline : October 25, 2020

$10,000 per recipient

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2021 with plans to enter a college in the United States.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

Deadline : October 30, 2020

$160,000 - 40 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a high-achieving high school senior with financial need who plans to attend a four year college.
  • Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

SP High School Scholarship

Deadline : October 31, 2020

$10,000 - 10 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a high school student planning to attend college in September 2021.
  • Answer the essay question on the sponsor's website.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship

Deadline : October 31, 2020

$30,000 - 50 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently be in high school between the grades 9-12.
  • Be enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school or home study program in the United States.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program

Deadline : October 31, 2020

$20,000 - 150 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current high school (or home-schooled) student attending a school in the U.S. (or select DoD schools) who will graduate during the 2020-2021 academic school year.
  • U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationale, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees - based on the guidelines utilized by U.S. Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid eligibility.

You Deserve It Scholarship

Deadline : November 29, 2020

$1,000 - 1 Award

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a resident of any of the 50 United States, District of Columbia or U. S. Territories
  • Be 16 years of age or older and be enrolled in college or registered in a high school

Real World Design Challenge Scholarships

Deadline : November 30, 2020

$50,000 - 7 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled in grade nine, ten, eleven or twelve.  Students enrolled in school environments with alternative grade or level designations must be engaged in a program of study equivalent to the corresponding high school grade level.

10 Words or Less Scholarship

Deadline : November 30, 2020

$500 - 1 Award

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 14-25 who will be attending school in the Fall of 2021.

Innovation Scholarship

Deadline : December 1, 2020

$2,500 - 6 Awards

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a high school junior or senior
  • Have participated in a project within the community and demonstrate how that has contributed to your growth as an individual.
