Google Classroom Codes (by teacher)

Newsela is currently offering free access to their entire product suite for the rest of the 2019/2020 school year.

Audible Stories

Audible is opening up a portion of their library of books to teachers and students who wish to read.  Some of their books span six different languages.  They are all free to listen to on your desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet.

Common Lit

For teachers and students, click the "Create Free Account" button to get started.  Teachers can choose a lesson, share with students, and track progress.  The site now also includes Spanish reading passages and questions.

Offers daily schedules for learners, ages 2-18.  Teachers can set up classrooms for free.  Lessons included are standards-aligned for kindergarten through early college.  AP courses, such as U.S. History and U.S. Government & Politics,  have lessons available.  Other courses include, but are not limited to, Art HIstory, Grammar, and World History.

The National Gallery Virtual Tour

Wherever you are in the world, take a tour of the National Gallery from this page.  In conjunction with Google Street View, you can explore eighteen different wings of the gallery.

Abdo Digital Bookshelf

Website includes full digital access to a large number of books.  Search by age group, genre, subject, and other ways.

Sebco Books

This website is free through June 30, 2020.  It contains an ebook collection of over 700 titles, in both fiction and non-fiction.  When logging in, enter "1" for student ID.

The Independence School District is first and foremost an institution of learning.  While these activities are not a replacement for classroom instruction, they are committed to providing educational opportunities for students throughout this closure.

Derby High School is in Phase I, utlliziling Edgenuity Curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards for the four core courses (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) plus Health/Physical Eduction, World Language, and electives.

Edgenuity's research based instructional model (visit the Edgenuity website here) meets the demands of the CT Common Core State Standards, offering an interactive and personal learning environment with the right level of support for each student. Derby High School is pleased to offer online instruction through Edgenuity's research based instructional model. Courses are organized into manageable segments so students work at a pace that is right for them. Assignments ensure students master key concepts and develop their analytical and critical thinking skills. Customizable options support accommodations and modifications as needed.
